Marisa Twigg
co-founder, Grey Matter Media
Marisa Twigg is the co-founder of Grey Matter Media, a news media nonprofit serving central Ohioans, and is also managing editor of Matter News, Columbus' only women-owned nonprofit, investigative local news outlet. For more than six years, she has created impactful visual media content professionally in both the public and private sectors. With an emphasis on photojournalism, Marisa weaves still visuals with written narratives to immerse readers in the stories she produces. Most importantly, she believes in telling the full story about her local community here in Columbus and holding truth to power in doing so. She graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in environmental policy and decision making, focusing on journalism, environmental and social justice. Previously, Marisa worked for ENGIE at Ohio State University, where she managed communications for a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership between ENGIE, Axium Infrastructure and Ohio State University. She has directed campaigns for a multitude of utility and sustainability projects aimed at educating the campus community and leadership on such issues. In addition, Marisa spearheaded the first-ever Smart Campus Challenge at Ohio State University, where students competed for $200,000 in sustainability project funding in an effort to make Ohio State more sustainable. She has interned at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, produced photojournalism on community development in rural Tanzania and is a HOBY Ohio West alumnus. Outside of work, Marisa is an avid outdoor adventurer and nature enthusiast. She lives in Hilltop and on pleasant Ohio days you can catch her biking the Camp Chase Trail, hiking Zaleski State Forest or kayaking Ohio's beautiful lakes and scenic rivers.
